What does SLCMA do?

SLCMA has several ongoing projects and committees and is always creating new ones! Everyone of our programs was a result of a member being interested and suggesting it.

Some of our main projects include:

  • Weekly unhoused community distribution

  • Our free community fridges/ pantries

  • Hosting Really Really Free Markets

  • Community Event planning

  • Disaster Response projects

What does organizing with SLCMA look like?

Instead of being assigned a job when you join, you can choose to participate in as many or as few projects as you’d like. Depending on your capacity, there are opportunities to get involved in ongoing projects or to help out here and there. Our organizing happens both online and in person.

Online work:

  • Coordinating projects and events

  • Designing flyers and posts for social media

  • Collective care for our members

In Person Work:

  • Weekly distro days

  • Setting up and cleaning up at monthly Really Really Free Markets

  • Tabling at events

  • Helping fellow groups with events and projects

  • Garden days

  • Cleaning out and stocking Freedges

How is SLCMA structured? Are there leaders?

SLCMA is horizontally structured, we do not have any leaders and make decisions through consensus. Any member has the power to make or block a proposal.

What does it mean to be a member?

You agree with our core values and want to put in the work to build stronger communities and practice mutual aid. We don’t have a requirement for how much time is put in but ideally members are putting in at least an hour a month.

  • At least 18 years of age

What is the onboarding process like?

The process to join is simple. Our sign-up form has a video covering the basics. After you fill out the form, one of our current members will reach out to you within the following week to arrange a 1-on-1 onboarding session with you.

Are there dues?

Nope! SLCMA members do not pay dues.

What if I want to support but don't have time or energy to get involved consistently?

We try to respect and accommodate everyone’s capacity. Even the occasional help can mean a lot! That being said, we couldn’t do the work we do with out the support of our donors and social media followers.
